Terms:

This page is offered as a resource for those who are interested in the topic of locked facilities but come across terms they do not know and for those who might want a little refresher. I am currently working in my second facility and I can tell you that not every facility is the same nor do they use the same words for everything.

Section: This is the area where the residents live. We have 12 residents per section, with 4 staff.

Restraint: This occurs when staff hold a resident in place for more than one minute. The resident is usually restrained in place and may be restrained by multiple staff members.
